Oyarzabal renewal on Real Sociedad’s medium term agenda amid 2026/27 planning | OneFootball

Real Sociedad have begun mapping the 2026/27 season and their squad needs, with the renewal of Mikel Oyarzabal Ugarte identified as a medium term priority, according to Diario Vasco.

The contractual situation of Matarazzo is also on the table. He has one year left on his deal, and the club are keen to secure him for longer given recent results.

Around Oyarzabal, both sides project calm and stress there is ample time to negotiate. His contract runs to 2028, with a €75 million clause set in 2018 after Athletic Club pushed hard to sign him.

Oyarzabal has already renewed three times. On 13 February 2016 he extended to 2021, although that agreement remained in force for a little over two years.

In August 2018, facing a clear threat from Athletic, Real Sociedad significantly improved terms, lifting his salary, extending to 2024 and raising the buyout from €40 million to €75 million.

In February 2023, with 16 months left, he signed for four more seasons as captain and leading figure. That may be the best guide now, though neither side is likely to wait that long this time.
