Leeds United hero Pablo Hernandez has committed his future to CD Castellón with a new contract running until 2029, following their play-off disappointment.
The club said in a statement that the Castellón native has renewed alongside assistant Sergi Ripollés, both from the city, and they are credited with transforming the team and reaching the LaLiga EA Sports promotion play-offs.
Hernandez began coaching with Castellón’s reserves, leading them to promotion, then stepped up after a poor start under Johan Plat last season. He sparked a surge that carried the second-tier side into the play-off semi-finals, where they lost to a 94th-minute Almería winner.
Since his arrival the first team have recorded 20 wins, 10 draws and seven defeats, a run underpinning Castellón’s resurgence.
President Bob Voulgaris hailed the renewal, describing Hernandez as a role model who understands the club and highlighting stability as a priority.
The former Leeds playmaker, from Castelló de la Plana, expressed pride at leading his hometown side and pledged to give everything for a fanbase he shares. Former Elland Road team-mate Luke Ayling responded on social media, calling him the magic man.
