Leeds United hero Pablo Hernandez has committed to CD Castellón until 2029 after their promotion push ended in play-off heartbreak. The Spaniard was pivotal in Leeds’ rise to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.
The club said in a statement that Hernandez has renewed alongside assistant Sergi Ripollés, crediting the pair with transforming the season and taking the Orellut side into the LaLiga EA Sports promotion play-offs. Since his arrival, the team have recorded 20 wins, 10 draws and seven losses.
Hernandez began with Castellón’s reserves, guiding them to promotion, then stepped up to the senior set-up after a poor start under Johan Plat. He sparked a promotion bid and reached the semi-finals, where Almería struck a 94th-minute winner.
In that statement, the Castelló de la Plana native described continuing to coach his hometown club as deeply emotional and pledged to give everything to repay the supporters.
President Bob Voulgaris welcomed the agreement in the same communication, highlighting Hernandez’s understanding of the club and emphasising stability as central to the project at Estadio SkyFi Castalia.
