Pablo Mouche has launched a stinging critique of Juan Román Riquelme, accusing the Boca Juniors president of lacking self-criticism amid a near three-year trophy drought and contentious decisions.
Less than a week earlier, Riquelme’s interview sparked online debate, including his comparison of Edinson Cavani’s injury with Martín Palermo’s absence in 1999-2000, when replacements or new signings were not questioned.
“I am tired of hearing Román in every interview doing nothing but blaming the opposition, always outraged by what others did or taking it out on the media. You need to let go and focus on running your club, there is plenty to improve,” he told Planeta Boca.
Mouche was particularly irked by Riquelme’s self-referential claim that he spent six years on a youth contract and even beat Real Madrid while on those terms, in order for others to benefit.
“Another thing that bothers me is the ‘I won’. In that final against Real Madrid there were Martín Palermo, Hugo Benjamín Ibarra, Sebastián Battaglia, Chelo Delgado, Guillermo. They are Boca idols. Enough of the ‘I won’, you did not win, the team won. Carlos Bianchi was on the bench.”
Mouche and Riquelme were team-mates from 2007 to 2012, winning the Apertura 2008, decided in a triangular with Tigre and San Lorenzo, the unbeaten Apertura 2011 under Julio César Falcioni, and the 2012 Copa Argentina. They were also 2012 Copa Libertadores runners-up to Corinthians.
