Simon Jordan has told Rob Edwards to show loyalty to Middlesbrough as Wolves eye a move for the head coach.

Simon Jordan has told Rob Edwards to dismiss any links to Wolves and concentrate on Middlesbrough, as he insists the head coach should be grateful to the Championship side for turning to him this summer.

Edwards has had a mixed managerial record so far, with the major high point coming when he took Luton to the Premier League.

However, his time with the Hatters ended on a sour note, as they were battling relegation to League One when he was sacked, and Luton are now playing in the third tier.

Rob Edwards told to show loyalty to Middlesbrough amid Wolves interest

Despite that, Boro appointed the ex-Watford chief in the summer, and the 42-year-old has done an impressive job in the first few months, as his side sit second in the table going into the midweek round of fixtures.

That appears to have caught the eye of Wolves, with reports claiming that the Premier League strugglers have made Edwards a top target as they look for Vitor Pereira’s successor.

Whilst Edwards insists he is only concentrating on Boro, he didn’t completely rule out the possibility of returning to Molineux, having been at Wolves as a player and a coach previously.

That stance appeared to annoy Jordan, as the ex-Crystal Palace owner told TalkSPORT that Edwards should stay with Middlesbrough.

He has no business doing anything other than the job he has got at Middlesbrough. He has been given an opportunity by Steve Gibson who is a good football club owner. He was brought in after the end of his time at Luton where his reputation was damaged a little bit, because their decline was, to some extent, under his watch.

The successes were there, and he was part of the success, but he has been given a good job, remind yourself Rob, that Gibson gave you an opportunity and don’t even be considering moving to Wolves just because you played there. I took you on loan to Palace!

It won’t serve him well if he jumps out of the Boro job after five minutes. We’ve seen this before, where people think the grass is greener somewhere else and the opportunity that exists for them, but it isn’t. He’s at a good football club, Middlesbrough are in good nick, Gibson will be thinking they can get promoted this season, so he will probably get backed in January. So, pack it in, distance yourself from the Wolves job and get on with the opportunity you’ve been given.”

Rob Edwards would be taking a massive risk by leaving Middlesbrough for Wolves

This is a strong message from Jordan, but it’s hard to disagree with what he says. Edwards struggled with Luton last year, so Boro did take a chance by bringing him in during the summer.

In normal circumstances, it would be difficult for any Championship boss to turn down the chance to join a Premier League club, but the reality is that Wolves are a mess right now.

The owners at Wolves appear to have given up, and the long-term prospects of the club look bleak, with relegation this season seemingly an inevitability. Therefore, it’s hard to see the appeal for Edwards, aside from his connection with the club.

Plus, as Jordan says, Edwards should feel a sense of loyalty to Boro, and leaving after a matter of months would certainly not paint him in a good light.

So, it will be intriguing to see how this plays out, but Boro
