In the days following the ceremonial presentation of the Meisterschale to Manuel Neuer, Harry Kane, Michael Olise and their teammates, the Allianz Arena pitch continued to shimmer with confetti. This was still the case when FC Bayern paid tribute to volunteers on the first nationwide Ehrentag (day for getting involved). As part of a football tournament organised especially for them, the spotlight was on those involved in the FCB volunteer programme 'PACK MA’S' and in the club’s various departments. At the end of the day, some people took a piece of confetti home with them as a souvenir: a small symbol of a wonderful day.

“We are delighted that, as part of the nationwide Ehrentag – during which initiatives and events took place across Germany to raise the profile of and pay tribute to voluntary work – FC Bayern has been able to set a special example,” said Kiki Hasenpusch, the club’s deputy managing director: “The Ehrentag is intended to be a commitment to respect, fairness and a strong sense of community. Those who volunteer also actively contribute FC Bayern’s values to society: we want to inspire action, promote participation and foster a sense of community.”

Around 80 volunteers were invited to the unique tournament at the Allianz Arena. It was led by Manfred Poppe, head of seniors football, and former FCB goalkeeper and current TV pundit Kathrin Lehmann, who hosted the event. The atmosphere was relaxed, friendly and full of energy. Everyone was able to let their inner child out – whether at the kick-off, whilst celebrating or laughing together on the famous turf where the FC Bayern players usually compete for points.

The teams were a mixed bag: volunteers from the ‘PACK MA’S’ programme played side by side with people from departments who usually work behind the scenes. On this day, everyone who is otherwise active in different areas shared a changing room, a ball and a collective experience. The tournament proved the perfect opportunity to network, make new contacts and get a sense of just how diverse the community engagement at FC Bayern is.

The tournament at the Allianz Arena was more than just a sporting competition. It was a day of togetherness and an opportunity to highlight the importance of volunteering in sport, with a view to encouraging even more people to get involved themselves.

With the event at the Allianz Arena, FC Bayern wanted above all to say thank you to everyone who, week in, week out, contributes their time, ideas and passion – in the sporting departments, in youth work, in educational projects and in the fight against discrimination. 'PACK MA’S' is the best example of this: when lots of people pull together, something emerges that is greater than any single game.
