Palacios extends Eibar stay to 2028, pledges seriousness and humility | OneFootball

Eibar sporting director César Palacios has signed a new deal to June 2028, extending his tenure by two years as the club chase a Primera promotion play-off place.

According to AS, the renewal arrives months before his previous agreement expired and reflects the board’s trust after a strong 2026, 36 points from 48, that has Eibar three points off the play-offs. Palacios said he intends to continue with the same seriousness, humility and enthusiasm.

The Pamplona-born 51-year-old, father of Real Madrid’s promising midfielder of the same name, joined as technical secretary in summer 2021 after relegation to Segunda. Since then he has led squad building and the sporting structure across five seasons on tight resources, particularly in the last two, with effective external recruitment.

Across the first three campaigns after the top flight, Eibar fell one point short of returning each time. Palacios reflected that they were memorable yet painful seasons, decided by fine details, and that the group can be proud of competing for major targets.

He feels ready to keep steering the project, aiming for a team the fans recognise. He also accepts he has not done everything perfectly, and will keep working and fighting without losing sight of what the club is.

Under his watch, Eibar have stayed in the upper reaches and backed a sustainable model that includes a new training complex to develop local talent on the fringe of Athletic and Real Sociedad catchment areas. The renewal signals continuity and a project seeking to grow with ambition and coherence in the professional game.
