Palmeiras have arrived in Catanduva, in the interior of São Paulo state, to begin their pre-match camp before Sunday’s Campeonato Paulista final against Novorizontino in Novo Horizonte at 20:30 Brasília time. The squad were greeted by celebrating supporters on arrival.
As reported by Globo.com, the coaching staff chose to make the roughly 400 km trip on Saturday to streamline logistics. Catanduva is about 50 km from Novo Horizonte, whereas teams usually base themselves in São José do Rio Preto, more than 90 km away.
All first-team players travelled, including Paulinho, who is nearing the end of recovery from surgery on his right shin but is not yet available to play.
On Sunday morning Abel Ferreira and his staff will run activation work at the team hotel, continuing the camp schedule. The final on-pitch session was completed earlier on Saturday at the club’s training base.
Holding a 1-0 first-leg lead, Palmeiras will take the title with a draw, while a defeat by one goal takes the tie to penalties. The club are chasing a 27th Paulista crown, and Abel could become their most decorated coach with 11 trophies.
