Palmeiras have bid farewell to Weverton, the goalkeeper leaving after eight seasons to join Grêmio, and honoured him before the Santos match at Arena Barueri on Wednesday.
The club said in a statement that it celebrated his achievements on its website and social channels, thanking him as their most successful goalkeeper and one of the most decorated players in the club’s history.
Palmeiras had sought to extend his deal by one season, through to the end of 2027, but Grêmio offered a three-year contract, a proposal that appealed to the goalkeeper.
Weverton became a substitute late last year after a hand injury and lost his starting spot to Carlos Miguel, who began the Campeonato Paulista opener.
An idol at the club, he departs with 12 titles and 454 appearances. He is level for most trophies won in Palmeiras history with Gustavo Gómez, Marcos Rocha, Mayke, Dudu, Ademir da Guia and Junqueira.
