According to Globo.com, Palmeiras have accelerated their rebuild, loaning Raphael Veiga to América in Mexico and seeing Weverton join Grêmio, leaving only one pre-Abel arrival.
That remaining player is Gustavo Gómez. The rest of the squad were recruited under the current coaching staff, appointed in October 2020.
Both departing stalwarts carried weight in the dressing room. The reshaping now includes identifying new leaders alongside captain Gustavo Gómez.
In that vein, Palmeiras targeted Marlon Freitas, then Botafogo’s captain. Piquerez, signed in 2021, has been groomed for a leadership role, with Marcelo Lomba, Murilo and Lucas Evangelista also part of this experienced core.
With about one month left in the window, the club are seeking experienced additions who can offer immediate impact. The current targets are centre-back Nino, midfielder Danilo and attacking midfielder Arias.
