Palmeiras have honoured Danilo after his Brazil World Cup debut, releasing a behind-the-scenes academy video on Sunday. According to Globo.com, it highlights his switch from forward to midfield in the club’s youth ranks.
Danilo came on in the second half of Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco in New Jersey last Saturday, playing about 15 minutes.
Early in his academy spell he was used as a striker, then a one-off move to midfield brought a man-of-the-match display and he stayed in the position. The video features several academy figures, including João Paulo Sampaio.
Palmeiras have recently marked other call-ups too, among them Endrick, another Cria da Academia de Futebol, although he did not feature against Morocco.
For Palmeiras fans, the tribute has raised hopes of a possible return. The midfielder is leaving Botafogo and could appear at the Academia de Futebol after the World Cup.
He and his staff are waiting for an offer from a European giant, aiming to join a club in next season’s Champions League. Zenit showed interest, but he does not plan a move to Russian football, and Palmeiras await clarity to decide whether to advance negotiations with Botafogo.
Across this season he has played 29 games for Botafogo and Brazil, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists.
