Palmeiras returned to training on Wednesday after three days off during the international break, with eight players away on national-team duty.

According to Globo.com, the session took place in the afternoon at the Academia de Futebol. The absentees were the Argentines Giay and Flaco López, the Uruguayans Emiliano Martínez and Piquerez, the Paraguayans Gustavo Gómez, Mauricio and Ramón Sosa, and the Colombian Jhon Arias.

Those involved worked through technical drills focused on passing, possession and defensive marking. Vitor Roque continued a tailored schedule indoors at the club’s high-performance centre as he targets full fitness after the FIFA window.

Palmeiras lead the Brasileiro outright on 19 points and do not play again until 21:30 on Thursday 2 April, when they face Grêmio at Arena Crefisa Barueri. The staff will use the gap to aid recovery and sharpen preparations for that match.

Marlon Freitas said he was pleased for team-mates called up, stressing the break was important to rest and recover after a heavy run of games. He added that batteries had been recharged and focus had already shifted to what he expects to be a difficult game. He said he was sure they would prepare well, set their strategy and deliver a strong display with the supporters behind them.
