Fresh from Sunday night’s Paulista triumph against Novorizontino, Palmeiras returned to São Paulo partying on the team bus during the 184 km trip from Novo Horizonte. According to Globo.com, players sang and danced with the trophy held in the aisle.
Flaco López usually runs the dressing-room music, mainly reggaeton, but this time, in sunglasses and amid the noise, he shared the playlists. He and Allan, on six and one goals in the competition respectively, live-streamed parts of the journey.
At the back of the bus around the state trophy were Flaco, Giay, Gustavo Gómez, Piquerez, Emi Martínez, Carlos Miguel, Luighi and Aranha, the goalkeeper promoted to the first team after Weverton’s departure.
The delegation reached São Paulo at around 6am, having left after the presentation of the trophy and the on-field celebrations. The squad were given Monday off.
Palmeiras will reconvene on Tuesday and are due to play at 19:30 on Thursday, away to Vasco at São Januário in the fifth round of the Brasileirão. They lead the league with 10 points, level with São Paulo but ahead on goal difference, seven to four.
