Palmeiras seek to end Copa do Brasil bogey since 2020 crown | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, four-time winners Palmeiras have found the Copa do Brasil a bogey since lifting the trophy in 2020. On Sunday they start a last-16 tie with Fortaleza at Nubank Parque at 16:00 Brasília time.

Their worst return in this period came in 2021, when CRB knocked them out on penalties in the third round.

In 2022 they went out in the last 16 to São Paulo. A year later they reached the quarter-finals before São Paulo ended their run.

That 2023 run also featured Fortaleza in the last 16, a 3-0 home win followed by a 1-0 defeat away that still sent Palmeiras through.

They exited in the last 16 in 2024 to Flamengo, and in 2025 to Corinthians.

Palmeiras are juggling three competitions, leading the Brasileirão by eight points over Flamengo but with one more game played, and already in the Libertadores last 16.

Focus now turns fully to the Copa do Brasil for the next four days, with the return leg on Wednesday in Cuiabá, MT, after Fortaleza sold their home venue.

If they beat Fortaleza, Palmeiras will meet their budget target of reaching the quarter-finals. The forecast is cautious, though pushing deeper could lift revenues as the club aim to keep the squad and avoid major sales this year. The title could be worth more than R$ 91 million, comprising R$ 4 million for the quarter-finals, R$ 9 million for the semi-finals and R$ 78 million as champions.
