Senegal coach Pape Thiaw said on Monday that the AFCON 2025 episode is behind his side and that they want to focus on Tuesday’s 2026 World Cup opener against France.

According to L'Équipe, Thiaw said he would not revisit the tournament, called Senegal African champions, and stressed they are well prepared and concentrating on the match.

On 18 January in Rabat, Senegal had beaten Morocco 1-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations final. After a stoppage-time penalty was awarded to the hosts moments after a Senegal goal was ruled out, several Senegal players left the field and supporters attempted to invade the pitch and threw projectiles.

In mid-March, the Confederation of African Football’s appeals body stripped Senegal of the title and awarded it to Morocco.

Following that decision, Senegal lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
