The future of the Parc des Princes has become a defining theme of Paris’s 2026 municipal election. According to L'Équipe, most of the nine candidates now favour selling the stadium to Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG tried to buy the ground, but outgoing mayor Anne Hidalgo ultimately rejected a sale, straining relations. Nasser al-Khelaifi then said PSG would leave. Two sites, Poissy in Yvelines and Massy in Essonne, are shortlisted, with a final decision due in autumn.

Emmanuel Grégoire, formerly Hidalgo’s first deputy, set out a detailed plan in December. He proposes either a long lease or a tightly controlled sale with a city buy-back right, alongside covering part of the ring road to add a garden and retail.

Rachida Dati pledges to keep PSG in Paris and to negotiate a sale in return for a sports and culture village around the ground. Pierre-Yves Bournazel would reopen talks and sell the stadium and land for €1 billion to fund free underground parking and scrap surface bays.

Sarah Knafo backs a sale, saying clubs should own their stadiums, while pledging to end tax breaks for Qatari buyers. Sophia Chikirou opposes any sale but wants PSG to stay. Thierry Mariani also rejects a sale, decrying piecemeal disposals.

A January poll found 61% of Parisians in favour, a view shared across parties, including 78% among Chikirou’s supporters. PSG will await Hidalgo’s successor before fresh talks on key points. Administrative steps remain, and any outcome would require a vote by the Paris council.
