VfB Stuttgart will part company with Pascal Stenzel this summer, ending his seven-year stint at the club. The club announced on Tuesday that the 30-year-old’s expiring contract will not be renewed.
Board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth praised Stenzel’s influence, noting he arrived when VfB were struggling in the 2. Bundesliga and that, with and thanks to him, the club progressed to the Champions League and lifted the DFB-Pokal. He also highlighted Stenzel’s reliability and his service to the team and club identity, offering warm thanks and best wishes to his family.
Stenzel made 139 appearances for Stuttgart. He reflected that the seven years were special for their unforgettable moments.
He recalled starting in the 2. Bundesliga, then promotion, last-minute survival, the relegation play-off, a runners-up finish, the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal. He said the supporters repeatedly showed him appreciation and loyalty that meant as much as events on the pitch.
Stenzel added that he would have preferred to bid farewell in the shirt, but instead offered thanks to everyone who shared his journey, calling VfB special and urging them to keep that spirit in all phases.
