Paul Joyce: Ibrahima Konate Set to Leave Liverpool

After the recent departures of both Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, Liverpool’s summer transfer plans just got even more difficult.

According to Paul Joyce, defender Ibrahima Konate is set to leave the club when his contract expires next month.

Speaking on X, he said: “Ibrahima Konate set to leave Liverpool when contract expires next month.”

“The player and club unable to agree new terms.”

The news comes just one month after Konate himself claimed that an agreement was ‘close’ between the two parties.

Where will Konate go?

According to recent reports from L’Equipe, a number of top European clubs are interested in the Frenchman. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea are all waiting in the wings to make a move.

Real Madrid have held long standing interest in the 26-year-old and look to be willing to repeat the trick that saw them land Trent Alexander-Arnold for free last summer.

Who will replace Konate?

Liverpool already have one defender set to join. Jeremy Jacquet joins from Rennes in a £60m deal when the window opens. He could partner Virgil van Dijk next season, but it could be a huge ask for the youngster.

Joe Gomez could be forced to stay once again, whilst summer signing Giovanni Leoni completes his rehabilitation from an ACL injury last September.

It’s quite likely that Liverpool will return to the transfer market for another defender. They have appreciated Maxence Lacroix in the past, and he is expected to leave Crystal Palace this summer.

Other names like Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke and Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven could also be worth keeping an eye on.
