Paulinho angered Flamengo at the Maracanã on Saturday, celebrating Palmeiras’ third goal by urging home fans to be quiet, according to Coluna Do Fla.

He also stepped on the Flamengo crest, sparking a confrontation. Players from the hosts demanded respect, and the winger mocked the situation.

Léo Pereira said he was saddened by what he viewed as a lack of respect from Paulinho, and expected at least minimal respect for people and clubs. He added the forward appeared immature and only he could explain his behaviour, noting that provocation has long been part of football.

In the 17th round of the Brasileirão, Jorge Carrascal was sent off after 20 minutes. Flaco López opened the scoring for Palmeiras, then Allan and Paulinho added further goals, with goalkeeper Rossi’s errors involved.

Flamengo host Cusco (PER) at the Maracanã on Tuesday 26 at 21:30 Brasília time. It is the final round of Libertadores Group A, with Flamengo top of the section.
