Corriere dello Sport reports that Paulo Dybala is close to extending his Roma contract, a development that dents Boca hopes of a high-profile signing.

The dream of seeing La Joya at La Bombonera appears indefinitely delayed. Boca keep an eye out for international pedigree, but will now look for other attacking options.

Talks in Italy have accelerated between the player’s agent, Carlos Novel, and Roma sporting director Tony D’Amico.

To help finalise an agreement, Dybala accepted a 65% pay cut, reducing his salary from eight to three million euros per season. This reflects his wish to continue his career and family life in the Italian capital.

The agreement is framed as a long-term extension, with the forward aiming to stay at least until 2028. It would ensure he plays in the next Champions League and leaves open the option of retiring in Rome.

With the former Instituto striker set to remain in Europe, Boca will redirect efforts to strengthen their frontline for a demanding semester. The brief includes the imperative of winning the Copa Sudamericana.

Boca continue pre-season while working quietly in the market, mindful of South American financial realities. The aim is to assemble a competitive squad under Vasco Arruabarrena in his second spell.
