Paulo Ângelo Valentim remains Boca Juniors’ all-time leading scorer in the Superclásico against River Plate, having starred for the club from 1960 to 1965. He helped Boca to Primera División titles in 1962 and 1964.

According to Sitiboca.com.ar, Valentim struck 19 times in the derby, 10 in official fixtures and nine in friendlies. He also holds the best scoring rate in the rivalry, with 10 in just seven official games, an average of 1.43 per match.

On his arrival, president Alberto J. Armando set a simple brief, focus on scoring against River while the club took care of everything else. Boca had identified the Brazilian at the 1959 Sudamericano.

His haul puts him ahead of Carlos Morete, who scored in the fixture for both clubs, and of Martín Palermo, whose eight in 19 Superclásicos came alongside the most Boca appearances in the game.

Valentim moved to Argentina after spells with Guaraní, Atlético Mineiro and Botafogo, and later spent a year at Sao Paulo, then joined CF Atlante in Mexico before finishing at Argentino de Quilmes.

After retiring he settled permanently in Argentina and coached youth players. He died on nine July 1984, aged 51, from heart problems.
