Barcelona played host to Atletico Madrid late on Tuesday night at the Spotify Camp Nou in what will go down as the biggest game yet at the newly renovated stadium post its reopening.
The goal on the night was to ensure that they retain the lead at the top of the table that they only secured days ago, and Hansi Flick’s men did well to dominate the game.
Atletico Madrid took the lead early in the first half, but Raphinha levelled the score soon after before Dani Olmo handed the team the lead in the second half.
In between, the Catalans had plenty of chances to score and even put the game to bed, but their finishing on the night was not quite as clinical.
In the end, they did take all three points after a hard-fought 90 minutes and a Ferran Torres goal, and now put the pressure on Real Madrid with a provisional four-point lead.

The goalkeeper had yet another stellar game at the back for the Catalans, proving how important it is for a shotstopper to be comfortable with the ball at his feet in Hansi Flick’s system.
He often found himself in situations where Atletico Madrid were through on goal within little cover, but showed good reflex shot-stopping and did not hesitate to run out of his box and get to the ball first.
The left-back had a good game in attack, darting down the flank and combining effectively with Raphinha.
Defensively, however, he was caught out of position on occasion and struggled to get back in time. Assisted Ferran’s goal late in the game.
The youngster had yet another largely promising display at centre-back and did well not only in the buildup phase but in holding the offside trap.
Was lucky not to be sent off late in the first half for a foul that looked extremely dangerous and possibly even a last-man foul. Came up with some clutch blocks after the break.
The younger of the two centre halves again continued to be the more important one and the leader at the back although he too was not devoid of errors.
Cubarsi, at one point, headed a ball straight into the path of Alex Baena and presented him with an open chance to score that Joan Garcia heroically saved. Barring that, the defender was largely solid.
Kounde played a rock-solid game at right-back, juggling well between defensive and offensive duties. Had some trouble tracking back at times, but overall put in a decent shift across the ninety minutes.

Playing in the double-pivot, Garcia was again neat with his distribution under pressure and did not lose too many balls to Atletico Madrid’s man-to-man press.
Put in hard work off the ball to help recover possession, especially in the opening part of the first half.
Pedri starting made all the difference in Barcelona’s plans, for the star midfielder single-handedly negated all the pressure Atletico Madrid tried to apply and dominate the department.
Was silky smooth in possession, hardly ever made a wrong touch and provided a perfect assist for Raphinha’s equaliser.
Once again virtually created the team’s second goal with a vertical pass straight to the Atletico Madrid area.
Another decent outing for Olmo who looked much better, more connected and less error-prone than he has all season.
Yet, one knows he is capable of far better and far more attacking firepower that still did not come out on the night.
Stepped up in the second half to create and finish the team’s second goal in a tight space with wonderful link-up play but appeared to dislocate his arm in the process.

Yamal appeared silent for most of the first half in terms of his final output, but he did not slack off or hesitate in putting in the effort or taking on men.
Looked to be free from his discomfort for the first time in a long time and took much more initiative as the game progressed to buildup and create chances.
The Polish striker did not quite get into the game as he hoped he would and continued to be mildly disconnected and sluggish on the field.
Should have given the team the lead with a penalty but went on to strike one of his career-worst attempts.

The Brazilian was yet again decisive, always looking to be an attacking threat and attacking the spaces behind Atletico Madrid’s defence on the counter.
Scored a wonderful goal to get the team back into the game, taking the ball around the goalkeeper and tucking it home with care.
