Flamengo thrashed Madureira 8-0 in the second leg of the Campeonato Carioca semi-final, sealing a place in the final.
According to Globo.com, Pedro and Lucas Paquetá led the way. Pedro scored four and set up Samuel Lino, while Paquetá struck twice, had a delightful lob ruled out and forced an own goal from Jean Vianna for the third.
Pedro felt discomfort in his left thigh early on but grew into the game. He registered eight attempts, went close with an overhead kick and slipped a fine pass in the build-up to Paquetá’s disallowed finish.
Paquetá operated in Arrascaeta’s role, heading one and guiding another into the corner, and he created clear chances that Pedro and Everton could not convert. Carrascal supplied both assists for Paquetá and impressed with his dribbling.
Alex Sandro’s solo run ended with the assist for Pedro’s first, Emerson Royal teed up another and Vitão’s long pass sparked one of the goals. De la Cruz pressed well and was fouled for the challenge that saw Wallace sent off. Goalkeeper Andrew was largely untroubled.
From the bench, Lino hit the post then finished late after Wallace Yan won the ball to cap the rout. Coach Filipe Luís’ side controlled proceedings from the start and drew the best from Paquetá in that central role.
