According to Diario Do Peixe, Golden State Warriors wing Gui Santos, the only Brazilian currently in the NBA, received a Santos retro shirt in late May 2026 from Gabriel Arantes, one of Pelé’s grandsons.

He also received a shirt from the new Pelé brand collection, inspired by historic Brazil kits, plus a personalised top bearing the number 10 in tribute to the football icon.

The meeting brought together two figures of Brazilian sport in a cross-discipline exchange, organised as a nod to the NBA’s leading Brazilian presence. It took place during the player’s off-season break in the country.

Born in Brasília, Santos progressed from the Associação de Basquete de Brasília (Asbaco) to Minas Tênis Clube, where he rose through the youth ranks and earned national attention.

Performances in the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) opened the door to the NBA Draft. In 2022 he was taken by Golden State with the 55th pick.

He first developed with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G-League before breaking through. The 2025/26 campaign marked his consolidation in the NBA under coach Steve Kerr.

He averaged nine point two points, three point nine rebounds and two point three assists in the regular season. In March 2026 he scored 31 against the Brooklyn Nets, the third-highest single-game haul by a Brazilian, behind Leandrinho Barbosa’s 41 and Anderson Varejão’s 35.

Off the court, in February this year Santos signed a three-year extension with Golden State worth 15 million dollars.
