In a drab contest, goalkeepers Mike Penders and Donovan Léon were decisive as Auxerre and Strasbourg finished 0-0 on Saturday.
According to L'Équipe, Léon made five saves and commanded his area, backing a risk-averse defence. Penders produced four stops with calm authority against an uneven threat.
Gideon Mensah muted Gessime Yassine in the first half and was booked for a foul on El Mourabet in the 43rd minute. His understanding with Oppegard yielded some joy down the left after the interval.
Yassine had 24 touches, losing seven, and failed to create space without Guéla Doué, with Högsberg, a centre-back by trade, behind him. He was withdrawn at half-time for Amo-Ameyaw, who also struggled. Datro Fofana offered little for Enciso and had lost eight of nine duels by the interval.
In the 56th minute, Jérémie Pignard awarded a penalty for a foul on Högsberg during Auxerre’s strongest spell. After four minutes of checks, VAR ruled Högsberg offside and the decision was overturned.
Fofana was then replaced by Panichelli in the 64th minute. Four minutes of stoppage time were signalled, yet the final whistle sounded before that minimum elapsed.
