Manchester City sent fresh assurances to Pep Guardiola over the club’s 115 charges during negotiations over his new two-year contract, it has been reported.
The 53-year-old ended long-standing doubts and speculation over his own future last week by signing on until the summer of 2027, despite initial reports into the situation pointing towards a one-year deal plus the option of a further 12 months.
As such, Manchester City will likely have the perfect opportunity to rebuild their ageing squad over the course of the coming markets, and still have Pep Guardiola in place to educate new faces into his footballing philosophy that is now shared throughout the Etihad institution.
But arguably most importantly, the new agreement with Guardiola is also likely to see the legendary head coach remain in place for the outcome of Manchester City’s legal fight with the Premier League over their 115 charges of alleged financial rule breaches.
And a new report around that subject has highlighted that the former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician was handed further assurances from higher-ups within the football club over their fate regarding the matter.
That is according to the information of the Mirror’s Simon Mullock, who reports that Guardiola was given fresh assurances that City will win their ongoing legal battle with the Premier League before he signed his new two-year contract until the summer of 2027.
The 53-year-old ultimately opted to demonstrate his belief that club officials are telling the truth by penning a new long-term deal, and insiders at Manchester City believe the new deal gives a strong indication that they are winning their legal fight, according to the Mirror.
Speaking in the immediate aftermath of his new contract extension, and what it could mean when it comes to the 115 charges and any possible sanctions on the club, Guardiola told reporters, “I said that (I would stay) six months ago. You have my interviews.”
He continued, “I said when all the clubs accused us of doing something wrong and people say ‘what happens if we are relegated?’ I will be here. I don’t know the position they are going to bring us, the Conference?
“[But] next year we will come up and come up and come back to the Premier League. I knew it then, I feel it now.”
For now, all of Pep Guardiola’s focus will be firmly on matters on the football pitch, as he looks to revive his Manchester City side from a slump of form that has seen them lose all of their last five matches across competitions.
