Man Utd took a massive step towards finishing in the top four and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League with a narrow win at Chelsea on Saturday evening.
The Blues had the majority of chances at Stamford Bridge but their profligacy in front of goal cost them yet again as they fell to a first-half goal from Matheus Cunha.
It was a much needed victory for the Red Devils following a 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford last weekend.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Man Utd captain Bruno Fernandes told TNT Sports after the final whistle.
“We had to bounce back. It’s not just about Leeds, we had two games that we didn’t win, so we knew we had to put in a great performance because Chelsea is a very good side.”
Ten points now separate the two clubs in the Premier League table, with United sitting third and Chelsea back in sixth with five games to go.
“It was very important for us because we know our aim is to get to the top four,” Fernandes continued. “They [Chelsea] are the closest ones there, so making that distance is perfect for us, and that’s what we need.”
He added: “I feel three points closer. That’s it. We know we need more points and we’ll do everything possible to get it done as quickly as we can.”
Fernandes continued his stellar campaign in the Premier League, setting up Cunha’s winner to bring his tally of assists to 18, just two off the record for a single season.
“I always want to do better than the season before. I want to improve my overall game, not just assists or goals, but everything I’m involved in.”
