“Perfect game” needed: Guardiola rallies Man City for historic Champions League turnaround against Real | OneFootball

Pep Guardiola hopes Manchester City can take confidence from past comebacks ahead of the club's Champions League tie with Real Madrid.

City trail 3-0 on aggregate after a damaging defeat in Madrid last week, with Federico Valverde's first-half hat-trick sealing success for the Spaniards. That result leaves Guardiola's side facing an uphill task to reach the quarter-finals.

Just four teams have ever progressed from aChampions League tie after losing the first leg by three or more goals.

Despite that, Guardiola hopes his team can overcome the odds.Speaking to the media on Monday, Guardiola was asked about his favourite comeback win during his time at the Etihad.

The Spaniard said his side's comeback win against Aston Villa to win the Premier League in 2022 was his personal favourite, and evidence that City can recover the tie.

"Aston Villa, last game, to win the Premier League - 74 minutes 0-2 and we make three goals in 12 minutes. In other comebacks we did incredible things in scoring goals, but we concede, in goal difference we were out because of many details. So for many reasons, some times you are out.

"It will have to be the perfect game in many, many departments. From our people, from the referee's decisions. Many, many have to be good to make these kinds of things.

"It's still a nice experience to live again [even if you lose]. Always I have good memories in the defeats. One of the most exciting moments was the Tottenham game, we we went out, but what a game, what a moment.

“There’s not really much more left to say, it’s like a final. It’s a perfect game to turn round."
