Perri And Gnonto To Return? | Predicted 4-3-3 Leeds United To Face Burnley

Leeds United were enjoying an incredible run at Elland Road until before the international break, when Tottenham Hotspur clinched a 2-1 win in the previous gameweek. A tricky test awaits the Whites on Saturday afternoon, as they will lock horns with Burnley, fellow newly promoted outfit, at Turf Moor.

The Clarets are one of the candidates to go down, as they have only grabbed four points in seven games. However, a win in their own backyard should boost Scott Parker’s men in their battle for survival, and the gaffer must be encouraged by last season’s outcomes. They were unbeaten in both meetings, even though Leeds United clinched the Championship crown on goal difference.

Defence

Daniel Farke expects to have Lucas Perri back between the sticks after weeks of injury absence. Karl Darlow stepped in and delivered in his absence, but the Welshman would now be making way in favour of the Selecao custodian.

Leeds have significantly strengthened the backline, but the gaffer is still relying on his weapons from the previous campaign, except for the newly arrived left fullback, Gabriel Gudmundsson. Jayden Bogle remains irreplaceable down the right, and so is Joe Rodon, ahead of James Justin and Sebastiaan Bornauw.

Jaka Bijol is knocking on the doors of the first team after a high-profile summer arrival from Udinese. But the Slovenian centre-half must wait for his opportunities, with Pascal Struijk exhibiting his composure and commitment week in and week out alongside Rodon. The Dutchman caused unlucky deflections on both of the Tottenham goals, yet his presence in deep defence offers more stability and command.

Midfield

Although skipper Ethan Ampadu continues to drive the show from the base as a deep-lying playmaker, Farke’s three-man set-up is incomplete without the summer signings Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff. They have replaced Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev in the middle of the park, as their box-to-box movements, creative spark and all-round traits bring energy, balance, and fluidity to the team’s midfield play.

Attack

Meanwhile, Farke has a serious crisis down the wide with Daniel James and Wilfried Gnonto sidelined for weeks. The latter could be back in contention, but might not grab an immediate start.

Brenden Aaronson, primarily a ‘number 10’, should continue as a makeshift right-winger over Jack Harrison. But the left-wing role belongs to Noah Okafor, who is settling down after a late summer move from AC Milan. Despite having Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha as striking options, the manager is expected to stick with Dominic Calvert-Lewin as his frontman.
