FC Bayern go into the Bundesliga classic at Borussia Dortmund with some question marks over their personnel. Two days before the top match, the focus was on Manuel Neuer in particular – and Vincent Kompany provided a cautious update at the matchday press conference
The 39-year-old captain had recently had to pull out of training early due to calf pain. Neuer was actually on his way back after tearing a muscle fibre and had already completed parts of his goalkeeping training again. But the renewed discomfort has now caused uncertainty. According to Kompany, however, there is no real cause for concern
„It looks good for Manuel Neuer, we thought he might be out for longer. But he might train with us today, then we’ll have to discuss it again before the game,“ explained Kompany. However, that didn’t sound really optimistic. „It’s all positive – maybe not for tomorrow. But we’ll discuss it with Manu.“ If it’s not enough, Jonas Urbig will once again stand between the posts. „He’s always stood in for him very well,“ Kompany clarified

In addition to Neuer, there are other construction sites in the squad – but there is also positive news. Konrad Laimer, who had to take a break recently, is fully fit again. „Konny has been training all week,“ confirmed Kompany
Alphonso Davies, on the other hand, will not yet be an option for the classic. The Canadian is in running training after tearing a muscle fibre, but is making progress. „Phonzy has been running, he’s doing well too. He’ll be there for the important month of March,“ said the Bayern coach. A return in the coming weeks is considered realistic
Two FCB players, Hiroki Ito and Minjae Kim, had to pull out of training prematurely yesterday. Kompany was unable to clarify what the specific situation is with the two defensive players, as he has not yet received any final feedback from the medical department in this regard
Despite the tense personnel situation, Kompany was demonstratively calm, saying that he did not want to take any risks with injured players – at the same time, he had full confidence in his squad
„We’re not afraid to take risks, but we don’t want to react too emotionally. We have a good squad and we trust it,“ emphasized the Belgian, adding that every player on the pitch is capable of achieving the desired result
Whether with Neuer or Urbig – FC Bayern will travel to Dortmund with a broad chest, but one thing is clear: the final decision in goal will only be made at short notice.
