Flamengo’s social media jibe after their Libertadores win at Cusco on Wednesday has riled sections in Peru, according to Líbero.
Bruno Henrique and Arrascaeta scored in a 2-0 success at 3,400 metres in the opening round of Group A, which Flamengo lead.
The club then posted a joke on social media, featuring a frame from Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove and a caption suggesting Cusco did not need to come down from altitude to learn humility, adding that supporters were witnessing the wave of the true emperor of America.
The report said the post mocked the opponents and even the Inca Empire, and that it belittled the renowned empire, while noting it was meant in jest.
Flamengo, dubbed the ‘Imperador da América’, face Fluminense on Saturday 11 in the 11th round of the Brasileirão. Kick-off is 18:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã.
