Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has sent a confident message as she and her teammates prepare to face Chelsea in the League Cup final this weekend.

Trophy on the line

United play in the League Cup final for the first time on Sunday when they come up against holders Chelsea.

The Reds will make their way to Bristol City’s Ashton Gate Stadium with the aim of joining Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City as the only clubs to have won the trophy.

This will mark the seventh consecutive time the Blues have reached the final. United, meanwhile, are no strangers to facing Chelsea on cup final day.

The Red Devils have lost to them in two of their three FA Cup final meetings, though they did defeat Tottenham in 2024 to secure the club’s first major trophy.

Ahead of the fixture, Tullis-Joyce spoke to the BBC and expressed belief that United can match Chelsea’s level and possibly eclipse them.

Going into the match, Marc Skinner’s side are second in the WSL table, one point and one place above Chelsea. Recent meetings between the two teams have been close and Tullis-Joyce is confident that United have closed the gap on their rivals.

Tullis-Joyce’s message

The 29-year-old shot-stopper said, “In previous games we’ve held them to 0-0 draws or lost by just 1-0.”

“I think now, with the pieces of the puzzle coming together, we’re really building something that [can put us in] title contention.”

“I can’t stress how excited I am for this programme, the players that we’ve already brought in and how much we can work and understand ourselves even more.”

She added, “There’s so much room to grow and I think we have so much potential as a squad that we’re slowly and surely realising.”

The contest kicks off at 14:15 GMT.
