Liverpool will be without Alexander Isak for the next while. Fortunately, there's a phenomenal striker on his way back to replace him.
Alexander Isak is out for a while after fracturing his leg against Tottenham Hotspur last week. It's an injury that came at the worst possible time for the Swede: right as he was starting to find some rhythm at Liverpool.
He literally scored while fracturing his leg, in fact, and there's always been a sense that goals will bring confidence and confidence will bring consistency from Isak. That's now all put to one side as he recovers from his injury.
Liverpool, then, are left without their grand plan for the season. Isak was supposed to be the star signing and the one who would hit the ground running.
That hasn't happened but not only that, the squad is also down to just one recognised striker right now. It's a lot of pressure on Hugo Ekitike, who was looking strained in the second half against Wolves on Saturday.
Fortunately, there is an elite striker on the way to fill the void.
Mo Salah isn't with Liverpool at the moment, of course - he's off at the Africa Cup of Nations trying to win a major trophy with Egypt. He'll be back in January at some stage, given the final is on the 18th, but the Reds must do without him until then.
And when he's back, Salah may see a different Liverpool. We're expecting some transfers to happen, for one, while Arne Slot is still tinkering with the system.
But we think he might return to a different role, too. Even if it's just a hybrid one.
Liverpool need a striker, after all - someone who can backup Ekitike on occasion and potentially play alongside him in games. It's the perfect role for Salah, especially given his need to reinvent himself this season.
