The FA have announced that Phil Foden has temporarily left the England Camp at Euro 2024 and returned to the UK for a “pressing family matter”.

The news comes just one day after England’s 0-0 draw with Slovenia in Cologne, Germany, where Foden played 89 minutes for Gareth Southgate’s side.

It is currently unknown whether the 24-year-old will return to the England camp, but he will return home having started in all three of his nations’ group stage matches and accumulating a total of 248 minutes. Despite this, Foden hasn’t contributed to either of England’s two goals, with many criticizing both him and Southgate for his performances on the left-wing, as they feel as though the Manchester City talent should play in a more central position.

As such, if Foden does not return in time for The Three Lions’ next match on 30 June, there could be room for experimentation in Southgate’s starting lineup.

England’s opponent on that Sunday is currently undecided, but, having finished first in their group, they will face a third place side from either group D, E, or F.
