The MLS was fully back this week, with plenty of games to enjoy a good night of soccer. Many milestones were reached, and certain players continue to boost their reputations with standout performances.
Now, there are some surprises in this beautiful sport called soccer. Nobody can deny that they thought for one second that the Philadelphia Union would beat a well-prepared New York Red Bulls by a score of 3-1.
If you claim you expected that result, I’m sorry, but you’re not being honest. I don’t mean to diminish the Union, but one team sits last in the Eastern Conference, while the other is eighth.
Nevertheless, with this victory, the Philadelphia Union’s interim coach achieved a new record that could set a precedent in the team’s future.
It’s been a bizarre season for the Philadelphia Union. After finishing first in the Eastern Conference last year, they now find themselves at the bottom of the standings, well outside the playoff picture.
Also, Coaching changes haven’t produced the turnaround the team hoped for.
In their most recent match, the Union displayed a level of dominance that had been missing for some time.
This resurgence is largely due to the fresh ideas brought in by the interim head coach, whose victory not only earned him recognition but also marked a significant milestone for the team, one that could inspire hope for the matches ahead.
But what is the milestone the Union’s interim coach, Ryan Richter, achieved after their 3-1 victory against NY Red Bulls? First of all, he earned his first MLS victory, something that can’t go unnoticed.
Now, the crucial part: he has now won a match as a head coach at every level of the MLS player pathway: MLS, MLS NEXT Pro, and MLS NEXT.
So let’s see how long he lasts at the job, or if the Union would see these results and decide to offer him a manager’s contract.
