Piccinato eyes Corinthians’ run, praises men’s squad link

On the morning of this Friday, the 31st, Corinthians Women held an open training session for the press at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava. After the activities, coach Lucas Piccinato gave a press conference and commented on how the preparation has been for the derby against São Paulo, which takes place this Saturday, the 1st, at 11 a.m., at Fazendinha, for the Paulista Championship.

“Football is so dynamic that the Libertadores title already feels like it was two years ago. We just got back, we have to work and prepare for a new competition against a great opponent. We managed to enjoy the moment of the victory, we have to savor it. We were able to rest our minds a little and this whole week was focused on a great opponent, the opponent that bothered us the most this season.”, he began.

“The preparation was very intense so that we can, in a way, even though we are already qualified for the knockout stage, make things difficult for an opponent who could reach the knockout stage and be a nuisance. So, the preparation was very strong in that sense, the athletes are doing very well and I hope we play a great match as hosts and come out with a big win.”, the coach continued.

Lucas Piccinato also spoke about the challenge of preparing the team for two consecutive derbies, since Corinthians faces Palmeiras after the Majestoso. The coach highlighted the difficulty of the matches, but praised the advantage of having free weeks to work before the games.

“Look, one of the positives is that we have full weeks to work, which is usually rare with our schedule, but for these two matches we will have it, we had a full week of work to face São Paulo tomorrow and we will have a full week to prepare to face Palmeiras, this is very positive so that we can dissect the opponent more and bring more content.”, he said.

“We understand that this game against São Paulo is a match where we can disrupt the path of a team that is still seeking qualification and that is our goal, obviously to win and leave São Paulo in fifth place. Against Palmeiras, it’s a fight between those competing for first place, which is also our next goal, first it was to qualify, now it’s to qualify in first because it will give us the advantage of deciding at home.”, Piccinato continued.

“Last year we didn’t have home advantage and didn’t win the title, so each game has its own particularities. Palmeiras changed coaches and obviously we’ll have to do a deeper analysis of what Palmeiras will bring at this moment. Camila’s team played one way, Rosana’s team will play another. It’s great that we have a week to prepare well.”, he added.

In addition to being the first open training session in the history of the Brabas, Friday’s activity had another special factor. The men’s and women’s squads of Corinthians had a moment of interaction and coach Lucas Piccinato valued the meeting.

“I think interaction is always positive, we defend the same shirt and our dreams are the same as the men’s. We understand that both sides live with a crazy schedule and it’s always very complex to fit in moments like this. But this whole year has been one where CT Joaquim Grava has been open to us, something we achieved.”, he commented.

“And today we’ve already trained here many times, which is always very good because the training fields are excellent, spectacular. And this energy is always very positive, we’re always cheering for them, and I know they’re always cheering for us. We want to do the same thing, which is to make the Corinthians fans happy, so I’m very happy for this moment, obviously.”, he concluded.
