Napoli star Rasmus Hojlund aimed an apparent dig at parent club Manchester United after the Partenopei’s Supercoppa Italiana victory.

Having joined United in the summer of 2023 from Atalanta in a deal worth £72m, Hojlund struggled to justify his massive price tag.

He buckled under the pressure of being United’s focal point in attack, failing to deliver for both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim. With a return of just four Premier League goals last term, Hojlund’s performances became a persistent source of fan frustration.

United loaned him out to Napoli as part of their efforts to revamp the attacking department. The loan is an initial option but is poised to become permanent if the reigning Serie A champions qualify for the Champions League. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that it’s almost guaranteed that Hojlund will stay at Napoli.

The Dane has enjoyed an uptick in form under Antonio Conte, currently boasting four goals and two assists in 11 top-flight appearances.

Hojlund has scored seven times in all competitions.

He was named in the starting XI on Monday as Napoli beat Bologna 2-0 to win the Italian Super Cup. David Neres grabbed both goals.

After the final whistle, Hojlund took to social media to celebrate the victory, while also seemingly aiming a dig at United.

The 22-year-old posted a picture of himself with the Italian Super Cup.

He captioned the image with the message, “What a great decision looks like.”

This seems to allude to his summer switch from United to Napoli.

This has predictably drawn ire from a segment of the United fanbase. It’s worth noting that Hojlund had resisted an exit, publicly stating his desire to stay prior to being forced out by the club’s decision.
