Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has downplayed the importance of the captain’s armband at Olympique de Marseille after taking on the role previously held by Leonardo Balerdi, insisting that “it doesn’t change much” at a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

“I am very proud,” said the Danish midfielder. “But it doesn’t change much — what matters is that we win matches. Who is captain or not won’t change that.”

With Marseille entering a decisive phase of the season, Højbjerg instead emphasised collective responsibility within the squad. “We need to do everything so that OM can finish in the best way possible.”

The 29-year-old also highlighted the demands of playing at the Vélodrome. “Our supporters are extraordinary – it’s up to us to deserve their passion.”
