AC Milan battered Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia, winning 6-1, and it was a big confidence boost for many players on the San Siro turf. Below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri, with a few of them standing out.

If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Starting XI

Sportiello (6): In terms of saving shots, he wasn’t called into action that much and displayed decent ability on the ball. He gets a pass here anyway, but he perhaps could have avoided the rebound Sassuolo scored the offside goal on.

Calabria (6.5): Compared to the Slovan display, which was really poor from him, this was much better as he actually contributed well in both phases of the game. This was shown on the goal as he made the most of a rebound. Defensively there wasn’t much to complain about either, but that goal will surely give him a confidence boost.

Tomori (5.5): He’s the only player not to get a pass here, simply because his positioning was questionable on several occasions, especially on the goal as he lost his man. Furthermore, he made a sloppy mistake which would have resulted in a goal 9/10, but he was bailed out by his colleague Pavlovic.

Pavlovic (7): The Serbian started well with many good interceptions and duels one in the first half, which is something that also continued in the second. Above all, he rescued his colleague Tomori with a fantastic last-ditch tackle to keep Milan from conceding a certain goal. One of his best games with the red and black shirt, but still a bit rash at times.

Terracciano (6): Given that he could have done better on the goal, he just about avoided a 5.5 here. It was a very good pass for Abraham in the build-up to the third goal, and he also finished the game well as a midfielder. You can see why Fonseca likes his movement and understanding when Milan are in possession, that’s for sure.

Fofana (6): Some dangerous passes at the back, a few that went Milan’s way and a few that didn’t, but overall good passing from the Frenchman. A decent display overall and he was also taken off at half-time. He can still work on decreasing the danger of the passes (through his positioning in certain moments).

Reijnders (8 – MOTM): It was an incredible pass for Chukwueze’s opener, showcasing world-class vision as well as execution, and the strike to make it 2-0 was just wonderful in every way. The form he’s in currently is amazing, and could well (hopefully) be decisive vs. Atalanta too.

Chukwueze (7): He admittedly got a bit lucky with the first goal, or unlucky depending on how you look at it as the first shot struck the post, but the second goal was well taken. Even if the end product could have been better in the 1v1s, he got two goals and that counts for a lot. He also had a couple of nice set pieces, but for a higher rating more success in the 1v1s would have been needed.

Loftus-Cheek (6.5): Powering runs forward and a fantastic assist for Leao after one of the aforementioned. He also had a couple of good efforts, one left-footed shot and one header, which nearly went into the back of the net. In short, much better than what we have seen this season from him.

Leao (7): Lively from the get-go, was heavily involved in the build-up for Reijnders’ goal and then got one himself with a powerful low-driven shot at the near post. It was right to take him off at half-time given the upcoming game.

Abraham (7): He combined well with his teammates, especially Leao, and got the assist for Chukwueze’s second goal. Then he managed to find the back of the net himself with a smart finish from a tight angle.

Substitutes

Torriani (N/A): Perhaps he could have done better on the goal, but it was a low-driven effort with good power. We didn’t really see enough to give him a rating, though, aside from a late offside save.

Musah (6): He did well in the ‘Fofana role’ with some good movement and passing. Nothing spectacular, of course, but certainly decent.

Pulisic (6): The winger was heavily involved in the fifth goal, i.e. the one scored by Calabria, as his cross/shot struck the inside of the post. After that he continued to combine well with his attacking mates. With more time and chances he probably would have got a higher rating.

Okafor (6): Okay work in the 1v1s and he managed to get an (easy) assist for Abraham. Truth be told it wasn’t a fantastic pass but the Englishman did well with the effort.

Bartesaghi (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
