Two more teams have joined the race for Leonard, who could be available for a six-figure fee this summer.

Plymouth Argyle and Huddersfield Town have made enquiries to Brighton and Hove Albion regarding the availability of Marc Leonard, according to Football Insider.

The Pilgrims will be hoping to avoid relegation again after managing to retain their Championship status at the end of last term.

However, it won't be an easy task and some fans and pundits have been sceptical of the appointment of Wayne Rooney, who was extremely disappointing during his time at Birmingham City last season.

But if they can retain Morgan Whittaker and other key players, they may give themselves a chance of doing well in the second tier again during the 2024/25 campaign and potentially beyond.

Huddersfield, meanwhile, have been relegated to League One and will be hoping to get themselves back to the second tier at the first time of asking.

However, that won't be an easy task, with the Terriers failing to perform well since the departure of Neil Warnock and the club needing to get itself back on track after failing to win that many games in the past couple of years.

However, they could enhance their squad with the addition of Leonard, who established himself as a major asset on loan at League One club Northampton Town last term, with his contributions helping Jon Brady's side to secure a solid finish in the third tier following their promotion from League Two.

The Cobblers may not be able to secure another loan agreement for him though, with other clubs taking an interest in him.

Marc Leonard continues to attract interest amid Brighton exit links

It has been reported by Football Insider that Plymouth and Huddersfield have both submitted enquries, as they look to position themselves in a good place to get a deal over the line for the Brighton man.

Birmingham City, Oxford United and Wrexham are three other teams in the mix for the player, who may be available for around £300,000, plus add-ons.

That could make him an affordable signing for many teams, including the U's who have just won promotion to the Championship and may have a decent amount to spend because of that.

Leonard will surely want to prioritise game time when choosing which club to move to, if he gets multiple options.

However, he may feel that he has already proved himself in the third and, with this in mind, he may be keen to make the move to the second tier and play regularly there.

Considering how well he played at Northampton last term, he certainly has the potential to make the step-up a tier.

At Plymouth, there could be a starting place for him, with Adam Forshaw unlikely to be at the club forever.

There may also be an opportunity for him to start at Oxford, depending on the formation that Des Buckingham goes with.

In a 4-2-3-1 system, he could start alongside Cameron Brannagan, although Buckingham may be keen to persist with 4-1-4-1 after the success it brought him during the latter stages of last term.
