An injury-hit Plymouth could be without another one of their key players for their trip to Carrow Road

Morgan Whittaker has emerged as a slight injury concern for Plymouth Argyle ahead of their midweek clash with Norwich City.

According to Plymouth Live, the forward may not be available for action when the Pilgrims travel to Carrow Road on Tuesday evening.

Wayne Rooney’s side returned to action following the November international break on Friday night, with the team earning a 2-2 draw at home.

A late Andre Gray goal deep in stoppage time secured a point against the Hornets in front of their own supporters.

However, Whittaker did not see through the full game, coming off in the 68th minute due to a toe injury.

Whittaker is a key figure in Rooney’s side, with the forward scoring three goals from 15 appearances in the league so far.

However, the toe issue that saw him come off in the second half on Friday night was one he carried into the game.

That it led to him being substituted has now raised concerns that he may not be available for the trip to face the Canaries midweek.

This has cast doubt on his immediate fitness ahead of their midweek trip to Norfolk, the third longest travel the team has to make in the league this season.

His absence would be a real blow to the team, although it remains unconfirmed whether he will be unavailable.

Plymouth have a number of injury issues already, so adding this to the pile will only further hurt Rooney’s side.

Ibrahim Cissoko, Ryan Hardie, Joe Edwards, Muhamed Tijani, Brendan Galloway and Conor Hazard are all already on the sidelines with issues.

This has left the Championship side down on options as we come into a busy part of the league schedule.

Wayne Rooney highlights away form hope

Speaking after the draw at home to Watford on Friday night, Rooney claimed that he expects to face a difficult challenge away to Norwich.

However, he is hopeful his team can continue improving their away form after earning a point the last time they were on the road against Derby County.

"They are a good team, good energy,” said Rooney, via Plymouth Live.

“As I say every week, it's going to be a very difficult game.

“We got a good result against Derby last time out away from home so hopefully we can improve on that maybe."

Plymouth face Norwich on Tuesday night at Carrow Road in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Whittaker absence would pile on the injury misery at Plymouth

It was a risk to throw Whittaker into the team on Friday night if the medical staff knew about his toe issue.

That risk hasn’t paid off if it now means he will miss game time due to making things worse.

Given the fitness situation at Plymouth, they should have considered playing it safe with Whittaker in the hopes that resting for a game or two could resolve the problem.

It remains to be seen how long he could now be out for, but adding him to their injury list will just pile on the misery for Rooney due to how many key players he is already without.
