Chelsea are among the teams being linked with Maxi Araujo this summer, with Portuguese paper A Bola claiming the Blues (along with Arsenal, Man U and Juventus) are all keen on the Sporting wing back.

Araujo has an €80m release clause, and won’t easily be prised away from Sporting, who are reportedly hoping to secure him on a new contract with a raised clause.

Sporting’s Champions League place strengthens their hand

Sporting’s late leap back into the Champions League has strengthened them financially, and they can offer European football at the highest level.

It’s easy to see where the dynamic Uruguay international would fit into a Xabi Alonso system as the left wing back, replacing a potentially outgoing Marc Cucurella.

These links haven’t had much substance to them yet beyond this initial paper talk. If there is serious Chelsea interest, we expect things to ramp up significantly, and we will probably end up stuck in some pretty tense negotiations with Sporting.

In other news…

Alex Scott is another player Chelsea are being linked with heavily in recent weeks. His team want him to sign a new contract to protect themselves from hungry Blues.

Chelsea are getting tied closer and closer to interest in Real Madrid players as they try to figure out a way to sell Enzo Fernandez for a reasonable price.
