Pouso Alegre, from Minas Gerais, have signed former Corinthians Under-17 striker João Gabriel.

According to Meu Timao, the centre-forward left after a contract termination early this year. Corinthians released almost 30 academy players in the last window while adding arrivals to strengthen older age groups.

In the Under-17s, João made 16 appearances. With him involved, the side recorded 10 wins, three draws and two defeats, a 73% points return. He scored five goals in competitions including the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Paulistão Under-17.

Pouso Alegre recently competed in the state top flight. They finished second in Group B on 13 points to reach the knockout stage, then faced Cruzeiro in the semi-final and went out after defeats in both matches.

Despite that exit, the club were crowned Campeão do Interior, awarded to the best overall campaign outside Belo Horizonte’s Atlético Mineiro, Cruzeiro and América Mineiro.

Corinthians links extend to the bench, with Danilo on the coaching staff. The former midfielder, a Timão idol with Libertadores and Club World Cup titles, led the team during the campaign and previously worked in Corinthians’ academy.
