Here are the 10 sides in our updated Power Rankings table after the weekend’s action.

10. Galatasaray (🆕)

Galatasaray’s winning run continues and the Turkish champions have certainly provided entertainment of late. Consecutive five-goal thrillers have seen Gala edge Tottenham and Samsunspor, with Victor Osimhen bagging four times.

The Nigerian has hit his stride in a Galatasaray shirt, an ominous sign for Süper Lig defences.

9. PSV Eindhoven (👎 Last week: 8)

It’s perhaps harsh to drop PSV down a place after another comfortable win, but the Eredivisie side’s consistency has become, well, expected.

Despite the setback of defeat to Ajax earlier this month, Peter Bosz’s side have thrashed Girona and NAC in successive games, scoring seven times and conceding none. They’ll take some stopping this season.

8. Manchester City (👎 Last week: 6)

We’ve reached unprecedented territory with Manchester City.

For the first time in his managerial career, Pep Guardiola has lost four consecutive games in all competitions. The Premier League champions are far from their swashbuckling best right now and Brighton were the latest team to take their scalp at the weekend.

It’s the first time since 2005/06 that the Citizens have lost four straight games, when a team containing the likes of Sun Jihai, Joey Barton and Ben Thatcher did so under the management of Stuart Pearce.

Amid premature crisis talks, perhaps that’s a perfect reminder of how far they’ve come.

7. Arsenal (No change)

Arsenal remain marooned in mid-table of our Power Rankings after a 1-1 draw at Chelsea. Mikel Arteta’s side’s lack of an out-and-out goalscorer was again apparent, as the North Londoners dropped points for the fourth straight Premier League game.

There’s room for improvement at the Emirates.

6. Atalanta (👍 Last week: 9)

Atalanta are quietly putting together another excellent season under Gian Piero Gasperini.

The Italians are a point off the summit in Serie A, well-placed for Champions League progress, and have one of the most in-form forwards in Europe in Mateo Retegui. A comeback win against Udinese at the weekend made it five on the trot.

5. Inter Milan (No change)

Inter were held by Napoli at the weekend though neither side will be overly disappointed with the draw at the San Siro. It’s a result that has tightened things up at the top in Italy, with just two points separating leaders Napoli from Juventus in sixth. With Atalanta, Fiorentina, Inter and Lazio sandwiched between, we could be set for a title race for the ages.

4. Bayern Munich (No change)

Bayern Munich are chugging along nicely, even if their European exploits have left a little to be desired. Vincent Kompany’s men won 1-0 at St Pauli at the weekend, with Jamal Musiala’s goal the difference. The Bavarians have already opened up a five-point lead over the chasing pack.

3. Barcelona (👎 Last week: 2)

Barcelona slip to third in our Power Rankings table after a setback in San Sebastien.

Sheraldo Becker scored the decisive goal for Real Sociedad to condemn the La Liga leaders to just their second defeat of the campaign. Real Madrid, six points behind with a game in hand, are within striking distance.

2. Sporting Lisbon (👍 Last week: 3)

Sporting Lisbon waved farewell to Ruben Amorim at the weekend and the new Manchester United manager could hardly have left his old team in a better place.

A stunning fightback in Braga ensured Amorim’s reign ended on a positive note, as Sporting scored three times after the 81st minute to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 win. It’s 11 wins from 11 games in the Primeira Liga this season and just five goals conceded.

1. Liverpool (No change)

Liverpool lead our table for the second successive week after beating Aston Villa 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.

With Arsenal and Manchester City dropping points, the Reds held their nerve to claim a precious three points at Anfield. Arne Slot has now won 15 of his 17 games in charge and the Merseysiders lead the standings in the Premier League and Champions League.

The apprehension at Jurgen Klopp’s exit seems a long time ago now.
