Newcastle United, as measured up against all the other Premier League teams.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you are winning!
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
We are now more than six months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of 24 February 2025):
24 and 3 Liverpool
21 and 8 Newcastle United
16 and 8 Forest
16 and 9 Man City
15 and 15 Tottenham
14 and 7 Brighton
14 and 8 Bournemouth
14 and 8 Villa
14 and 9 Chelsea
14 and 13 Brentford
13 and 8 Fulham
13 and 10 Palace
12 and 13 Man U
9 and 11 Everton
9 and 14 West Ham
9 and 17 Wolves
7 and 19 Leicester
6 and 23 Southampton
5 and 16 Ipswich
As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United are second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.
It is still only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side, only the three more than NUFC as things currently stand. With the two teams meeting at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Newcastle United three more wins than Arsenal, who are third best when it comes to Premier League teams winning football matches so far this season.
Then it is Newcastle with five more wins than Forest and Man City.
Six more than Tottenham.
Then seven more than Villa, Brighton, Brentford, Chelsea and Bournemouth, even more wins than that compared to the rest.
The last four months and twenty three United matches (all competitions), have seen sixteen wins, two draws and only the five defeats since late October. To win more than three times as many matches as you lose over a four month period. Outstanding.
