Real Madrid President Florentino Perez declared earlier this week that the ongoing issue of hosting concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu was ‘already fixed’, and that soon Los Blancos would be permitted to do so. After initially hosting a summer of live music events in the reformed Bernabeu in 2024, but since, those concerts have been halted by a legal challenge.
Los Blancos won a court case last month on appeal, which assigned liability to the concert promoters for breaches of Madrid’s environmental regulations. The concerts at the Bernabeu, in a residential area, as is the case in Chamartin, are classed as noise pollution by the law, as they exceed the decibel level that is deemed safe for residents. A group of residents around the Bernabeu, which in some cases is just metres away from the balconies of those living on the same street as the stadium, unionised and secured a court order to halt the concerts until they can be carried out within the law, something that is yet to happen.

According to El Confidencial, as quoted by Marca, President of the Madrid Regional Government Isabel Diaz Ayuso is considering a fresh proposal which would allow Los Blancos to host concerts at the Bernabeu. Just days after Perez publicly claimed that ‘we have the support of the Regional Government and City Council‘, Ayuso is supposedly looking at a proposal which would be an exception to the current regulations if concerts were deemed ‘in the general interest’. The President of Madrid is a regular guest at the Bernabeu, and has often been seen sitting next to Perez.
This measure would not apply to all concerts, but only particular events of ‘special relevance or prestige’ for the region. Singers Bad Bunny, and Shakira are cited as examples of such events, but these artists are already carrying out their concerts in the Spanish capital at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium. The report goes on to claim that the Environmental Ministry have spent months working on a proposal that protects residents and allows such concerts to go ahead, but that it is a complex process, and that no solution has been defined yet.

Amid criticism over the renovation of the Bernabeu, and the fact that the lack of concerts could be costing the club millions that were included in their business plan to carry out work on the stadium, Perez has played down the importance. He has declared that the impact on Real Madrid’s overall budget is minimal, and that it is more a matter of prestige than finances. As per Sport, Bad Bunny’s 10-night run at the Metropolitano will bring around €3m to Atletico’s coffers.
