According to Glorioso 1904, Gianluca Prestianni was the first team-mate to respond to Nicolás Otamendi’s Benfica exit, posting after the 3-1 win over Estoril.
The Argentine winger, a compatriot and international colleague of the centre-back, shared an emotional message on social media with photos of the pair in Benfica colours.
He thanked the captain for everything, praised him as an excellent player and, above all, an excellent person, which he said mattered most. Prestianni added it had been a pleasure and a privilege to play in the same team, recalling mates, matches and barbecues, and wished him the very best for what comes next.
Otamendi also addressed Benfica supporters in his own post, saying it was his turn to bid farewell to a club that meant a great deal to him. He reflected that closing such an important chapter was not easy, noting six years of memories that brought joy, challenges, setbacks and learning, and that each of them was worth it.
For Benfica, Otamendi made 281 appearances, with 183 wins, 52 draws and 46 defeats, and scored 18 goals.
He lifted four trophies, the league title in 2022/23, the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in 2023/24 and 2025/2026, and the Taça da Liga in 2024/2025.
