Eintracht enjoy home advantage in the DFB Cup for the first time in one and a half years against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday.
The backdrop
The 1-1 draw at Union Berlin is behind Eintracht. It’s over one and a half years since the last cup match at Deutsche Bank Park. The opponents in the quarter-finals on 4 April 2023: Union Berlin. Frankfurt won 2-0 on that occasion and eventually reached the final for the ninth time via a semi-final win at Stuttgart.
How we got here
Dino Toppmöller’s side beat second-division outfit Eintracht Braunschweig 4-1 in the first round of the cup, while Gladbach were 3-1 winners at third-tier club Erzgebirge Aue.
Bitter defeat
The Eagles are unbeaten in their last seven meetings with the Foals, although Borussia were the last team to inflict a home defeat on Eintracht in the DFB Cup. On 29 October 2014, Ibrahima Traoré and Thorgan Hazard scored for Gladbach, with Vaclav Kadlec reducing the deficit late on as SGE exited in the second round.

Eintracht will be aiming to avoid a repeat of that scenario on Wednesday evening at Deutsche Bank Park. Following a strong start to the campaign overall, the Eagles go into the clash with their Bundesliga rivals full of confidence and anticipation – and with the clear aim of getting through to the round of 16.
