PREVIEW: Wolves aim to stop slide against newly promoted Burnley in early relegation clash

Vitor Pereira’s Wolves head into Gameweek 10 still searching for their first win, and the pressure at Molineux is mounting.

The Old Gold have struggled this season, collecting just two points and suffering comfortable defeats to Leeds and Sunderland. While Wolves have been in this position before, this season’s Premier League feels different – and time is running out for Pereira.

Following their defeat at the Stadium of Light, Wolves face another newly promoted side in a crucial relegation clash as they host Burnley. Pereira described this weekend’s fixture as a must-win, and with results continuing to elude them, it may be just that.

Burnley, under Scott Parker, have shown themselves to be a more competitive side than the team promoted under Vincent Kompany two years ago.

Their near-impeccable defensive record helped them reach 100 points alongside Leeds in the Championship last season. So far back in the top flight, Burnley have collected seven points and sit just outside the relegation zone, a solid return for the Clarets.

However, Wolves may sense opportunity. Burnley have only beaten newly promoted teams this season, with just one draw elsewhere, and have won just two of their previous 44 matches against non-promoted sides.

Their away record is similarly poor – only three top-flight wins in their last 33 away games, all against newly promoted teams.

Wolves’ struggles in the final third have compounded their difficulties. Jørgen Strand Larsen, touted as a revelation last season, showed limitations against Sunderland, perhaps impacted by a recent Achilles issue. Hwang-Hee Chan and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also missed the match at the Stadium of Light and are expected to remain sidelined.

Burnley have their own injury concerns. Zeki Amdouni, Jordan Beyer, and Connor Roberts are all unavailable, while Lyle Foster missed last weekend with a dead leg but is expected to return. Jacob Brunn Larsen, substituted against Leeds, could lead the line again.

Jaiden Antony has been Burnley’s standout performer this season, contributing five goal involvements (four goals, one assist) in eight appearances. The winger will be central to Scott Parker’s attacking plans at Molineux.
