As we reported earlier in the week, Promise David appeared to have avoided a major injury at the weekend after leaving the pitch on a stretcher following a clash with Antwerp’s Daam Foulon. Union St Gilloise had hoped that the initial assessment proved David would be able to return before the end of the season, but now it appears that this will not be the case. David has been ruled out for the rest of the Pro League campaign, a major blow for Union who are suffering a number of injuries up front. David was crucial to helping Union win the title last season and will be sorely missed this year.
Worse for David is that it now puts his participation in the 2026 World Cup at risk. With Canada hosting, the tournament was a unique chance for David to play for the host country as they look to go further than they have ever done so in their history. David has risen from Estonian football to the top of the Belgian game and scoring goals at Champions League level. Without the injury he was due a big move this summer. The World Cup would have given David an even greater chance of earning a top move.
Sadly, the move is now likely to be in jeopardy as interested teams wait to see how he can recover. Hopefully David can recover quicker than expected and return to help Canada at the upcoming World Cup.
